Bill Comeau Ministries and The Parson House Gallery are proud to present:

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO CORITA KENT

A collection of 50 original Corita works from the late ‘50’s-1986 on display and for sale from March 1-31, 2013 at the new Parson House Gallery in Assonet, MA

Corita Kent began her long, illustrious career as a full-time freelance serigraph artist in 1969. In 1970, Pilgrim Press of Boston brought Corita and writer Bill Comeau together to create a series of multimedia materials for junior high school students, which became part of the United Church of Christ’s church school teaching materials.  Their partnership started a friendship and creative association that lasted until Corita’s passing in 1986.

This multi-faceted Corita show contains some of the major original Corita prints that Bill Comeau has collected over the years and two prints that combine Corita’s art and Bill’s poetry that were produced for the Pilgrim Press project. Also on display will be original artwork Bill created to reflect what he learned from Corita’s teachings, with his goal of helping her ministry continue.  These include his pastels with Corita’s calligraphy digitally added, as well as pieces with Comeau’s poetry and the art of Barton Lidice Benes and Mark Ellsworth Bieber, both of whom are represented in major museum collections, including the Museum of American Art and MOMA.

“All works are for sale. The original Corita’s are priced below the values stated in latest Corita Foundation catalog, says Comeau. “This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of history at an affordable price.”

“We are delighted to have this amazing collection of Corita’s marvelous and timeless messages at the March 1st Grand Opening of The Parson House Gallery,” said Sam Ruest, gallery curator and owner. The gallery has some of New England’s finest furniture and antiques from the 18th-20th centuries and includes a spotlight fine arts gallery to display the talents of New England’s most collectable new artists.
